Before adding the charging load, Auto Charge Pros may evaluate the existing feeder rating, feeder conductor capacity, detached-garage panel rating, existing connected loads, available electrical capacity, breaker compatibility, equipment condition, circuit distance, requested charging output, grounding and bonding conditions relevant to the work, and the route between the home and detached structure.

An existing detached-garage feeder may or may not have sufficient capacity for the requested output. The appropriate solution may be available capacity in the existing panel, a lower charger output, compatible EV load management, modifying the feeder, a new feeder, a separate dedicated route or another properly designed electrical solution.

Town of Purcellville and Loudoun County Permit Responsibilities

The incorporated Town of Purcellville and Loudoun County have different permitting responsibilities. Loudoun County Building & Development administers applicable building-code and electrical trade permits and inspections for properties within the county, including properties inside the incorporated Town of Purcellville. The Town of Purcellville separately administers zoning and property-development requirements within its corporate limits.

A standard EV charger circuit installed completely inside an existing private garage should not automatically be described as requiring a separate Town zoning permit. Additional Town review may become relevant for a new structure, a new accessory structure, a pedestal, significant exterior site work, unusual property alterations, work within a regulated property area, or another scope that triggers Town zoning requirements.

A Loudoun County electrical permit does not replace applicable Town zoning approval, and Town zoning approval does not replace the Loudoun County electrical permit. Association approval is separate from government permitting. The actual property location and scope determine requirements, and a Purcellville mailing address is not by itself proof that a property is inside the incorporated Town.

The inspection sequence can vary by project. Portions of the electrical work may need to remain accessible until inspection, property-access requirements are discussed before scheduling, restoration may occur after the electrical inspection, and additional visits may be required for some projects. Practical wiring methods may involve concealed wall or ceiling routing, unfinished basement areas, accessible framing, attic areas when appropriate, limited drywall openings, exterior conduit, underground conduit, or another approved method suited to the property. Anticipated drywall openings are discussed before work begins whenever practical.

Where included in the written estimate, removed drywall may be securely fastened back after the required electrical work and inspection. Full finishing—including tape, compound and sanding—is available separately when requested unless specifically included in the written scope.
