01 / local installation plan

EV Charger Installation Planned Around the Home

A Burke charging project may involve a relatively direct circuit from a garage panel or a concealed route from a basement, utility room or another level of the home. Split-level and multi-level construction can make framing direction and finished-space access an important part of the installation plan.

Before installation, we review electrical capacity, panel location, circuit distance, charger output, normal parking position, charge-port location, cable reach and the practical path for the new circuit.

03 / established Burke homes

Established Homes Need Evaluation, Not Automatic Panel Upgrades

Burke contains substantial late-20th-century residential development as well as renovated and updated homes. Existing electrical equipment should be evaluated based on condition, compatibility and available capacity rather than the age of the house alone.

Where relevant, we review:

  • Service rating
  • Panel condition
  • Breaker compatibility
  • Available breaker space
  • Grounding and bonding
  • Previous electrical modifications
  • Existing household demand
  • Available EV charging capacity

If the existing system can safely support the proposed charger, there is no reason to replace the panel solely because the home is older.

04 / Burke Centre

EV Charger Installation in Burke Centre

Burke Centre is a planned residential community with its own architectural standards and Architectural Review Board through the Burke Centre Conservancy.

The community includes five major areas:

  • Commons
  • Landings
  • Oaks
  • Ponds
  • Woods

Exterior changes to Burke Centre properties can be subject to Conservancy architectural standards and, in some clusters, additional supplemental architectural standards.

For EV charging, a Wall Connector mounted completely inside a private garage can present a different property-review situation from visible exterior equipment, conduit, raceway, pedestals or modifications affecting common or Conservancy-controlled property.

Fairfax County electrical permitting and Burke Centre architectural approval are separate processes. When exterior modifications are proposed on a Burke Centre property, the homeowner should confirm applicable Conservancy or cluster requirements before affected work begins.

05 / home & parking types

Different Burke Properties Create Different Charging Plans

Panel location, finished space, parking position and the path to the charger all shape the installation plan.

01

SPLIT-LEVEL & MULTI-LEVEL HOMES

Panel location and floor elevation changes can create more involved routes through finished ceilings and walls before reaching the garage.

02

TOWNHOMES

Compact garages, shared walls, limited charger wall space and parking orientation can affect circuit routing and charger placement.

03

BURKE CENTRE HOMES

Private garages, exterior modifications, cluster standards and Conservancy requirements may affect the project depending on the specific property and installation.

04

OUTDOOR PARKING

Outdoor chargers require appropriately rated equipment, suitable wiring methods, weather protection, mounting location and consideration of physical protection.

06 / electrical capacity

Can Your Electrical Service Support a 48-Amp Charger?

Unused breaker spaces do not automatically mean sufficient electrical capacity is available for another substantial continuous load.

A charger configured for 48 amps typically requires an appropriately designed 60-amp dedicated circuit when the equipment, vehicle capability, wiring method and available electrical capacity support that output. Auto Charge Pros evaluates existing household electrical demand before recommending charging output.

If available capacity is limited, possible solutions may include:

  • Reduced charging output
  • Compatible EV load management
  • Compatible charger power sharing
  • Panel or feeder modifications
  • Service upgrades only when genuinely required

Review Load Management and Electrical Panel Upgrades when those options are part of the planning conversation.

08 / permits & inspections

Fairfax County EV Charger Permits & PLUS Inspections

For a Burke home, Fairfax County’s permit path depends on the project scope and property type. Auto Charge Pros confirms the applicable process for the actual work being performed.

For a typical EV charger installation at a single-family dwelling, Fairfax County states that a separate EVCS plan submission is generally not required; the electrical permit is submitted electronically through the County's PLUS system.

When permitting is included in the project scope, Auto Charge Pros can handle the applicable electrical permit and coordinate inspection.

VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON INSPECTIONS

Fairfax County currently performs both virtual and in-person building and trade inspections. A virtual inspection may be requested when scheduling, but the inspector determines whether the project is appropriate for remote inspection.

Some condominium or apartment properties can be classified differently under the building code and may require a commercial rather than standard residential permit path. Confirm the actual property type before making permit claims.

See Fairfax County EV Charger Installation for the broader county context.

10 / workmanship

Clean Wiring Through Finished Homes

The charger is only the visible portion of the installation. When practical, Auto Charge Pros prefers concealed wiring through accessible framing, basements, ceilings or unfinished spaces rather than automatically running exposed conduit across finished surfaces.

If drywall access is necessary, expected openings are discussed before installation whenever practical. Where included in the written estimate, removed drywall may be securely fastened back after the required electrical work and inspection. Full finishing—including tape, compound and sanding—is available separately when requested unless specifically included in the written scope.

RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL SERVICES

See Residential Electrical Services when another electrical need is part of the plan.

11 / questions homeowners ask

Burke EV Charger Installation FAQs

How much does EV charger installation cost in Burke?

Cost depends on available electrical capacity, panel location, circuit distance, wiring route, charger output, finished-space access, outdoor routing, permitting, load management and drywall restoration. A short garage-panel installation can be very different from a concealed multi-level or basement route. Auto Charge Pros reviews the actual project before providing a written estimate.

Do I need an electrical permit?

Permit and inspection requirements vary by jurisdiction and project scope. Auto Charge Pros confirms the applicable process for the actual property and work being performed.

Does Fairfax County require EV charger plans?

For a typical single-family EV charger installation, Fairfax County generally does not require a separate EVCS plan submission. The electrical permit is submitted through PLUS. More complex property types or scopes may have different requirements.

Does Burke Centre need to approve my charger?

Not automatically. Burke Centre Conservancy architectural review can apply to exterior modifications, and individual clusters may have supplemental standards. An entirely interior garage installation can present a different situation from visible exterior equipment or work involving common property.

Can my electrical service support a 48-amp charger?

Possibly. Available capacity depends on existing household electrical demand rather than only the main-breaker rating or open panel spaces.

Do older Burke homes automatically need a panel upgrade?

No. Existing equipment should be evaluated for actual condition, compatibility and available electrical capacity. Age alone does not determine whether replacement is necessary.

Can you install from a basement panel?

Yes. The route depends on framing, finished ceilings and walls, accessible unfinished areas, circuit distance and garage location.

Can Fairfax County inspect virtually?

Fairfax County currently offers virtual and in-person building and trade inspections. Virtual inspection may be requested, but the inspector determines whether it is appropriate for the project.

Do you install Tesla Wall Connectors?

Yes. Auto Charge Pros is a Tesla Certified Installer and installs Tesla Wall Connectors and Universal Wall Connectors throughout Burke and Northern Virginia.

Is the work warranted?

Auto Charge Pros provides a one-year workmanship and installed-materials warranty on covered installation work. Charging equipment may carry a separate manufacturer warranty.
